Matthew Lombardi scored the lone tally for the Flames, who have lost two of three and were skating on nearly four days rest. Calgary won its last game against Los Angeles on December 19, then had a contest postponed in Colorado on December 21 when a blizzard dumped more than two feet of snow on the region.
Former San Jose netminder Miikka Kiprusoff made 28 saves in the contest. He came in 8-4-1 with a 1.99 goals-against average against his former team, including playoff games.
San Jose went on a power play late in the first, but it was the Flames who capitalized for a short-handed tally at 17:55. Lombardi got behind a couple of Sharks defenders and was all the way to the Calgary blueline before anyone gave chase. He then skated in all alone and beat Nabokov through the five- hole for his 11th goal of the season.
In the second period, Nabokov made a huge save on an odd-man rush for the Flames, as the puck ricocheted off the goal post to his left. The Sharks then went the other way, as Goc and Curtis Brown took the puck down the ice. Goc moved into the Calgary zone and flew to Kiprusoffs right side, beating the netminder high on the glove side to even the score at 1-1 at 6:59.
San Jose took the lead on a power play goal by Michalek at the 10:14 mark of the second stanza. After Richie Regehr was called for holding behind the Calgary net, Michalek beat Kiprusoff with a wrist shot to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead heading into the final period of play.
Early in the third period, off a Calgary turnover on the other side of the blue line, Brown ripped a slapshot toward the net that Kiprusoff kicked aside, but Mark Smith sent the rebound past him to give San Jose a 3-1 lead at 3:22.
Kiprusoff made a sliding save with 9:30 left to play to keep Calgary within two scores.
The Flames thought they had pulled within 3-2 with just under two minutes remaining in the game, but a video review showed Giordano's shot skipped past Nabokov's pad, hit the far post and rolled along the goal line before the netminder scooped it up.
Hannan added an empty net goal with 42 ticks remaining to put the game out of reach.

Calgary did not have a power play in the contest, while San Jose finished 0- for-2 on the man advantage...The Sharks are 13-5-0 at HP Pavilion and have won ten of their last 14 games there overall...
